‘Star Trek’: in What Order to See all The Series and Films of The Science fiction saga

Star Trek Viewing Order –

In the last couple of years, we have seen how the television science-fiction franchise par excellence, ‘ Star Trek ‘, is living a new dawn after the derailment of the “reboot” initiated by JJ Abrams. Today we have three series in broadcast, ‘ Star Trek: Discovery, ” Picard ‘ and ‘ Lower Decks, ‘that explore different sectors of space with their pluses and minuses,

These three series are the latest installments in a nearly sixty-year-old franchise since the original series starring William Shatner as Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as the mythical Spock. Series that originated a score of films and series, between spin-offs, sequels, and prequels (if we can call them that) unfolds over three centuries of space adventures.

But, how do you see them in order? Is there a specific order to see them? Well, as in almost any fictional universe, the answer is yes. So let’s go over how to look at all the series and movies that make up Star Trek in order.

Official chronological order

Star Trek Viewing Order –

That is the chronological order, following the official Star Trek published on its website. The main action of the old series (the original generation) is located around the second half of the XXIII century, while the new generation from now on we would be talking about a century later, reaching the end of the XXIV. With exceptions, of course.

So, next, you will see the order of all series and movies. I have decided not to divide them into seasons (except for practical necessity) not to mess it up more than necessary. In parentheses is the year in which the series or movie takes place.

  1. ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’ (2151-2155)
  2. ‘Star Trek: Discovery ‘ S1-T2 (2256)
  3.  And also, ‘Star Trek’ TOS (2266-2269)
  4. ‘Star Trek: The Animated Series (2269-2270)
  5. ‘Star Trek: The Movie ‘ (2273)
  6.  And also, ‘ Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan ‘ (2285)
  7.  ‘Star Trek III: In Search of Spock’ (2285)
  8. ‘ Star Trek IV: Mission: Save Earth ‘ (2286 and 1986)
  9.  And also, ‘ Star Trek V: The Last Frontier ‘ (2287)
  10.  However, ‘Star Trek VI: That Unknown Country ‘ (2293)
  11. ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation ‘ (2364-2370)
  12. ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation ‘ (2371 and 2293)
  13.  However, ‘Star Trek: Deep Space 9’ (2369-2375)
  14.  ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ (2371-2378)
  15. ‘ Star Trek: First Contact ‘ (2373)
  16.  And also, ‘ Star Trek: Insurrection ‘ (2375)
  17. ‘Star Trek: Nemesis ‘ (2379)
  18. ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks ‘ (2380)
  19.  And also, ‘ Star Trek: Picard ‘ (2399)
  20. ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ S3 (3188)

If you want to follow a complete order, tell you that from the third season of ‘Deep Space Nine,’ the action runs more or less parallel to that of ‘Voyager’ until its end. Although I have put both ‘First Contact’ and ‘Insurrection’ after both, the ideal would be to see the first film during seasons 5 and 3 of ‘ST: DS9’ and ‘ST: V’ and the second during their respective seventh and fifth season.

And what about Abrams?

Star Trek Viewing Order –

In 2009 ‘Star Trek’ would be released, where JJ Abrams would work on a reboot that would reveal an alternative line to the official one, called the “Kelvin line” by the USS Kelvin. The origin would come with the destruction of Romulus in 2387 (between ‘Lower Decks’ and ‘Picard,’ in fact, this series deals with its consequences) and a time traveller who ends up in 2233 to kill Spock.

  • ‘ Star Trek ‘ (2258 alternate)
  • ‘ Star Trek: Into Darkness ‘ (2260-2261 alternate)
  •  Beyond ‘ (2262 alternate)

If we wanted to fit these films into the official timeline, this saga would be between ‘Enterprise’ and the original series, reflecting those early years of Kirk and Spock aboard the ship.

The order of issue

Of course, we can always stick to the order of issue:

  • Original series
  • The animated series
  • Original series films (I-VI)
  • The new generation
  • Movies of The New Generation (VII-IX)
  • Deep space Nine
  • Voyager
  • Enterprise
  • Abrams Movies
  • Discovery
  • Picard
  • Lower Decks

The future

Star Trek Viewing Order –

The future is uncertain for the franchise. There are plans for more movies in the offing, but things are pretty far off. On the contrary, the part of the series seems to remain afloat with the next series underway:

  • ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’: A spin-off of ‘Discovery’ starring the crew of the new Enterprise, commanded by Captain Pike. Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck star in the series.
  • ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ – a series about teenagers who navigate an abandoned starship of the Starfleet.
  • ‘Section 31’ will explore the story of Philippa Giorgio in the mirror verse.
