Under Desk Treadmill – About, Benefits, Findings, and More

What is a treadmill under the desk?

Under-desk treadmills (or standing treadmills; the term is interchangeable) involve a desk attached to a treadmill.

We believe that these pieces of equipment – which we think is the correct term – are revolutionary in changing your work environment. But it’s more than that; some of them have settings that you can adjust based on what you want or how tall you are. Your desk can move up and down, the speed of the treadmill can be increased or slowed down. The choices are endless.

Under-desk treadmills allow you to do your work as usual, with the added benefit of placing one foot in the face of the other simultaneously. It’s multitasking at its best. If you can imagine a regular treadmill, put a desk on top of the control panel, you’ll have a pretty excellent mental picture of what a treadmill is.

It will dramatically increase your calorie expenditure throughout the day, which will bring you many benefits.

Benefits of a standing office treadmill

As you can probably already see, under desk treadmills can do wonders for your fitness and results in the office.

Here are some of the enormous profit of having and using a standing treadmill:

  • Walk (or run) while you work: this one is pretty straightforward, but it’s worth mentioning. You can enter your steps by tapping on your desktop.

(Satisfy the FitBit gods!) The benefits of walking or running cannot underestimate because that is what our bodies design. Not to sit for hours at your desk, but put one foot in front of the other for a considerable amount of time. A standing office treadmill connects you more with your natural nature.

  • You become more productive: Now, you would think that walking or running always would mean stepping away from your all-important job.

Funny enough, shedding blood is very helpful for your brain, improving both your productivity and creativity. Whatever the project or task at hand, you will be able to complete it faster and better than if you were sitting in your chair. Is this a potential salary increase?

  • Improves Mood / Reduces Stress in the Workplace: This is perhaps the essential benefit of a standing treadmill.

Walking or running releases many hormones in your body, including endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, a feel-good trip. It improves your mood during the working day and lowers your stress level (cortisol and adrenaline). Running also stimulates norepinephrine, which is technically a stress hormone, but it’s the one that keeps you alert and focused.

  • Helps You Avoid Many Illnesses: Walking and running more often will help reduce inflammation and move objects around your body.

The minus static you are, the better equipped you are to protect yourself from horrible diseases like type 2 diabetes. If you already have it, walking or running all day will help you manage your diabetes. In addition, removing chronic Stress will also help reduce inflammation, preventing you from any disease related to inflammation (see: all types of cancer).

  • Promotes a healthy weight: More movement = more calories burned = less weight. Don’t you like when the math works like this?

Also, walking does not inherently increase your hunger; this means that you will no longer eat just because you walk during your workday. If you eat a similar amount and burn more with your treadmill under the desk, you’ll end up with a calorie deficit, the primary way to reduce your weight (and, more importantly, your body fat).

  • Increased Overall Longevity: Walking and running more regularly will lower blood pressure, help maintain strong bones, limit Stress, eliminate inflammation, and keep you at a healthy weight. What does all this result? A longer and healthier life.

Discover a new trend: working with a standing desk and a treadmill that allows you to walk while working.

The standing or “sit-stand” desk has already convinced many workers in other countries.

The benefits of the office with a treadmill

On the one hand, they are working while standing improves health and burns a few calories. As the various scientific studies show, this helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, etc.

On the other hand, walking – even slowly – allows you to exercise and lose weight.

For this to work and to be able to work correctly, you have to stroll. So the sport you do is not very intense using a treadmill at work, but it is still better than nothing. Often, just using a treadmill in the office allows some people to get back to exercising on weekends or outside work hours.

Find a desk that fits a treadmill

However, this solution is far from easy to implement.

You have to find a desk that allows you to place a treadmill underneath and remains at the right height for working. The desktop must also be large enough to store a computer, documents, etc. In short, it is not easy to find the right office adapted to this situation. But, fortunately, a company called Activup specializes in the design of standing desks adapted to conveyor belts (also called “treadmill desk” in English).
